Safety of rider and horse are the most important issues.   Some of us  ride strictly in traditional attire, which is so lovely to see.   Some have livery of matching polo shirts in warm weather and distinct embroidered jackets with hunt logo  in the winter.   As finances allow, most new folks to hunting  wind up with the proper appointments, over the course of time, and with help from seasoned members.

Most of us ride in hunter saddles, as they are most practical for jumping and foxhunters are adrenaline rush thrill seekers!!  Many have followers that ride third flight in western saddles.  Some have “Western Whips,” those whippers-in who ride in a western saddle.  Some have horse drawn carriages  drive as hilltoppers.

Some ride exclusively in foxpens, and some only train there.  Some ride in state forests and public lands, some only ride on privately owned farms.

Some have fancy hunt balls, and some have an end of the year BBQ and dance, some don’t have either.   Fundraisers for the hounds vary with the climate, terrain, and local customs.

Early April at a Foxpen, catching hounds before lunch.
Working hounds are beautiful.
And every hunt thinks theirs are THE best!
We have varied interests that all lead back to a love of horses, hounds, cross country riding, and hunting.

Some hunts are very formal, and some are very practical, and many fall in between.
