Living in a rural area, one must look hard to find what works for his individual needs. Finding others riders with similar interests is always a pleasure.
Some foxhunters are into the racing and showing side of riding, many others are into the hunting and pleasure side of riding. AMF is more about the hunting and pleasure side. We have a well rounded lifestyle full of out door activities.
Our horses have been cow ponies, barrel racers, trail horses, and jumpers. We have field trialers, driving horses, sidesaddle mounts and back yard ponies.
Whether you have a private pack of foxhounds or are a follower and want more people in the field with you, expanding to other riding disciplines to introduce or encourage more participation is valuable. Inbetween hunting seasons, different disciplines can be invaluable to your routine of keeping your horse fit.
Trail riding organizations are ideal as they get one’s mount used to riding in the countryside and in close proximity to other horses. Cattle horses work well because they are already used to livestock that may be seen in the course of a hunt, and are very responsive and athletic. Barrel and gymkhana horses have the unique ability to make quick maneuvers around trees at a full gallop in the woods, and the rider already knows how to move her leg out of the way. Carriage Horses are always welcome in the hunt field as a dreamy hill topping experience, most prove themselves as very steady mounts.
